Need some advice please guys..... I bought this DIY Sontec clone off a local ME for $1850. Ive since found they go for around a grand normally (for a well built one) so I got ripped off. I sent it to Rob Squire for his assessment - this is what he found..... Things wrong with this unit Mains wiring dangerous, illegal and stupid - this has been temporarily fixed so I could run the unit Main front panel pcbs - the pots installed do not match the pcb layout and / or the front panel layout Besides the surgery to the front panel to try and make it work it has put stress on the pots pcb mounts and a number of pots have busted. Boost and cut is only 6dB - is this design objective or a cockup Rear panel pcb doesnt align with rear panel machining Id recommend either ditching it or getting all the correct pots, switches, knobs and correct case and rebuild it. Ive asked the seller to take the unit back and give me back my $1850 but he hasnt replied. Hes now blocked me on FB I just realized. Should I name and shame him or just pay to get it fixed and wear the loss?
