Needing to Be Right Our need to be right is an admission of egocentricity and self-righteousness. One who needs to be right rarely is, and when he is, it is at great price to himself and others. Conceit and intellectual pride stand in the way of our awakening. They short circuit our learning process. When we are hung up on what we know, we forget that we dont know very much at all. We begin to take ourselves far too seriously. That means that we have fewer friends and less peace of mind. If we want to live in a more peaceful way, we must recognize our need to be right as a sign of intellectual immaturity and emotional weakness. It does not serve our need to grow or to be nourished in our relationships with others. Paul Ferrini
