Neel looked at Nandini. As usual she was looking at Rahul. Usme aisa kya hai, jo mujhme nahi hai? said Neels mind. As soon as Rahul got out of Nandinis sight, she shifted her gaze to Neel who was already looking at her. With a reluctant smile, she waved towards Neel. He bowed to wish her a good morning and she smiled again. This was how they wished each other every morning. Neel and Nandini were childhood friends and now they were all grown-ups. They had entered into their 11th standard and as it was the most stubborn phase of their age, their feelings were all complex. Neel felt a strong feeling of love towards Nandini whereas Nandini was attracted towards the chocolate boy of their class named Rahul. Neel was aware of Nandinis feelings and for the sake of their friendship, he chose to stay quiet about his feelings towards Nandini. Nandu! You ok? he asked her settling on a seat behind Nandini. Nandini looked sad and as soon as she turned towards Neel, the teacher in the class arrived. For the whole day Neel kept thinking about Nandini and the reason behind her sadness. They didnt get the chance to have a talk. And the school dispersed. Reaching home, the first thing that Neel did was calling Nandini. But she didnt reply any of his calls or messages. So, he stopped trying and thought of giving some space to her. He decided not to talk to her untill she herself talks to him. He kept waiting for her replies. She was found online on whatsapp but she didnt reply Neel. He logged into Facebook and there too she was active. Neel was shattered. Where is my Fault? he said to himself. He wanted to cry at what Nandini was doing to him. It was 7:30 in the night and Neel was sitting with his head hung down on his bed. His mom came asking him to come out of his room but he refused. He slept to avoid the situation. It was 10:15 pm now that Neel woke up with his phones ring. He got up and sat on his bed with his phone in his hand. It was Nandinis call. Hello! he said in a worried voice. Hiiiee Neelu. Sogaya tha? said Nandini in a cheerful voice. Haan. Tu kaha thi? Kitni calls n messages kiye maine. Neel said rubbing his eyes. Neeellluuuuuuuu im very very happy today. I cant describe my happiness. Nandini said controlling her excitement. A smile occupied Neels face. He said, waah! Kya baat hai? Mujhe bhi bata na? Mujhe Rahul ne propose kiya aaj shaam ko! I cant tell you how happy i am Neelu. Subha i was sad because mujhe laga ke wo mujhe ignore kar raha hai. Nandini said . Smile faded away from Neels face all of a sudden and his face turned grey. He said, Kyaaa?? in a shock. Haan. Kya hua? Nandini asked. Neel said, Tuney haan kardi? Nadini : Haan baba. Aur kya? Tujhe toh pata hai na main usko kabse like karti hu. Neel : Hold on nandu! Kya kr rhi hai tu? Nandini : Kya hua? Kya bol raha hai? Neel : Tujhe pata hai na wo kaisa ladka hai? Nandini : yaar tu phir se shuru mat ho jana. Tujhe sabse pehle bataya hai maine cz you are my bestie. Ab please uske bare me kuch mat bolna. And ab soja. Good night. She disconnected the call and Neel was left in a shock. What the hell? Ye kyu hua? I cant let this happen. Hell simply use her, hell use my Nandu and hurt her thought Neel and a tear rolled down his right eye. He broke down and cried. Knowing that Rahul was a playboy. Neel didnt want to let this happen. Rahul was a notorious guy, known for his habit of taking girls to his bed and then Dump them. Till days Neel tried to make Nandini understand what she was into. But Nandini wasnt ready to listen anything. Her infatuation for Rahul had made her deaf and dumb. She wasnt able to understand a word. She said, Neelu bohot hogya! Tujhe Rahul se tabse problem hai jabse usne tujhse ladai ki thi. Ab tu meri life me mat bol. And duur reh ab humse. and she walked away. Days passed and then weeks and then months. Neel kept quiet and saw Nandini and Rahul enjoying. He didnt say a word to Nandini after that. He met Rahul one day and told him not to harm Nandini. To which Rahul replied, Tu kyu jal raha hai? and laughed, followed by his friends laughter. Neel was shattered again. He was unable to do anything. At nights he used to sob at his helplessness. One day, Neel went to school. As per his routine, he stood at the balcony of the first floor to see Nandini and Rahul coming. But he saw only Rahul. A sense of fear occupied Neels mind. No! No! Aisa nai hua hoga, stop thinking that Neel said to himself. Nandini was absent that day and this was enough for making Neel restless for the whole day. Somehow the school dispersed and Neel rushed to Nandinis house. Nandinis mother welcomed him in and told him that Nandini was sick. Reluctantly Neel was entering Nandinis room. Every step he took, seemed like a battle. He entered the room and Nandini was lying in her bed, covered inside her blanket. nandu? Neel uttered. Nandini got out of her blanket and looked at Neel. Her eyes were red and swollen. She had a pale face and looked messed up. She got up and managed to sit controlling her tears. Neel sat beside her, figuring the situation out and trying to ignore the reality. Kya hua nandu? Fever hai? Neel said, touching Nandinis forehead. She broke down and hugged Neel tightly and cried hard. Neel was facing his fear. He said, Please! Tell me, jo main sochrha hu wo nahi hua. Please nandu. His eyes were filled with tears. Nandini cried harder and harder. Neels tears were now running down his eyes. Nandu, rotey nahi. Main hu na tere saath. said Neel, himself crying. Nandini didnt say a word but she felt safest in Neels arms which were meant to hold her till the end.
