Negotiations Update for May 14, 2014 The union executive board met today at the office to bring everyone up to speed and discuss all outstanding proposals, and current bargaining positions. Our main negotiating committee is scheduled to meet with the company tomorrow at 1pm. We are expecting important financial information, which will allow us to respond appropriately to the companys most recent benefits proposal. But make no mistake. What the company has been demanding represents MILLIONS of dollars in benefits concessions. They also have double crossed us on vacation parity. This is not going well. We are confident that there is a path forward to a fair agreement, but its going to take the company HR group deciding to be fair, forthright, and trustworthy, to get it done. Our members deserve the benefits they have earned! They deserve the retirement for which they have planned! Again, they earned it! We are hopeful to have a breakthrough, but we have not got the sense that the company is truly willing to allow that to happen. There is plenty of time for that to happen, but the union must make preparations for every contingency (just as the company clearly has). So, starting this week union reps in the field will be putting together a picket duty schedule. Please let your local rep know your desired shift. We will try to accommodate requests, but ultimately a schedule for round the clock coverage will be made. It is the duty of all members to present themselves for picket duty in the event of a work stoppage. We dont want to alarm anyone, there is still plenty of negotiating to do, but we must be fully prepared to walk the picket if need be. United we cannot fail! Solidarity!
