Nehemiah 10: A covenant “To walk in God’s law” was made.” - TopicsExpress

Nehemiah 10: A covenant “To walk in God’s law” was made.” Where did the Levites, priests, singers, and gatekeepers learn how to walk in God’s law? They learned it from the Word of God as written by Moses, God’s servant. Three areas are listed in which they decided to walk in the law of God: (1) We will not give our daughters as wives to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons; (2) If the peoples of the land brought wares or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not buy it from them on the Sabbath, or on a holy day; and (3) we will bring our tithes and offerings and every seventh year forego the produce of the land by letting it rest, and not collect outstanding debts. While people are entitled to opinions, where the word of God is clear, there is only one way to “walk in God’s law” and that is to obey what it says even when it will inconvenience us. It was not easy for the Jewish people who had assembled there to decide to obey God in these three areas, but they were willing to make a covenant with God to do so and that is what constitutes walking in the laws of God. “Father, humble us so that we may walk in Your laws, even today.”
