Neighborhood Grant Orientation workshops offered Sarasota County Neighborhood Services has announced South County locations and dates for Grant Orientation Workshops. Attendance at the workshops is a requirement to be eligible to receive a neighborhood improvement grant. In 2003, the County Commission authorized the creation of the Neighborhood Grant Program for resident-based neighborhoods that wish to improve safety, preserve character and value, enhance physical and environmental health, promote healthy lifestyles and build leadership in their neighborhood. The projects must provide a public benefit and be supported by the community to be considered. Projects such as the removal of exotic plants, landscape beautification, restoration of a historical monument, creating a neighborhood gathering place, water quality improvements and pond restoration are examples of projects that are eligible for the grant funding. Nonprofit organizations are not eligible for the grant program, unless they are partnering with a neighborhood association. Grant applications are due no later than 5 p.m. April 28, to the Neighborhood Services Office, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Fifth Floor, Sarasota. Applicants must provide notification of their intent to submit an application no later than March 28. Notification can be provided by letter or email. Applicants must take a Grant Orientation Workshop before they can apply for a grant through the Neighborhood Grant Program. Space is limited and reservations are required. Each two-hour workshop is free. Applicants only need to attend one. To make a reservation, send an email to [email protected], or call 941-861-5000. The reservation should include Applicant’s name, phone number and the location, date and time of the workshop. Workshop dates, times and locations are subject to change. South County workshops will be held at the following locations: • North Port Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail — Feb. 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; and Feb. 12, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. • Elsie Quirk Library, 100 W. Dearborn St., Englewood — Feb. 22, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. If a neighborhood association would like to host a grant workshop in their community, email a request to [email protected].
