I read this article and the hundreds of comments, and agree that seeing a 20% service charge on the bill would alienate our customers. How would you feel about us raising prices 20% across the board but having a very clear NO TIPPING policy? Then we could pay servers something like $20/ hour plus 5% of their sales (thereby keeping the incentive to sell and run), and pay the kitchen $20-$35/ hour, depending on position. No health care ordinance fee either, but they would all still have fully funded health/dental insurance and 401k. I really value your input!
