Neighbourhood forum – please see attached a self-explanatory email from Janine Griffiths: Dear all, We are launching our campaign to become a designated Neighbourhood Forum at the Hampstead Christmas Fair tomorrow, Sunday. We will be in Oriel Court, so please stop by and say hello. What Neighbourhood Planning could mean to Hampstead Neighbourhood Planning is a new concept and what our plan looks like will be up to us. The following are examples of what we might be able to accomplish if we so choose: • More traffic limitations aimed at reducing through and commercial traffic; • More protection of local and community facilities including local shops, in order, for instance, to prevent facilities and shops being transferred to housing; adding restrictions to the basement policies; • Improving the Environment policies so that, for example, it is presumed that existing houses are not demolished needlessly; • Improving the protection of trees and garden areas; • Adding to the Local List of buildings and features to increase their protection; and • Introducing some definition of over-development. Becoming a designated forum But before we can begin work on a Neighbourhood Plan for Hampstead, we must become a designated Forum and consult on our proposed boundaries. Please take a look at the proposed map and let us know what you think - we have included all of the Hampstead Conservation Area, as well as part of the Heath not included in other forums and the northern part of the Netherhall Conservation Area, also not included in other proposed forums. If you would like to have someone from the Steering Group come to speak with you or your group, please let us know. Better yet, join the Steering Group: our next meeting is on January 8th. Anyone who lives or works in the Forum area can be a member. Other news: We have successfully applied for a £960 grant to help get the Forum off the ground. Our website, hampsteadforum.org, should be up and running within the next few days. Weve printed 4000 striking Hampstead Forum bookmarks to distribute - if you would like some for your shop, office, school, church or residents association, please let know.
