Nelson Camp Day 10 Blog – Saturday 10th January Not too much reporting being done tonight as we all went out for tea at the Honest Lawyer restaurant but Dave still did the SODs and these deservedly went to Ezra and Wilson who have been absolute stars all week with all of their hard work Charles controversially gave the DOD to C Fad who claimed that the incidents in question happened days ago!! Sorry Chris bad luck the pink board is yours until 2016!! Dave did his final wrap after our meal and then some presentations to our wonderful managers without who the camp would not be possible. Here is his final Wrap!! NELSON CAMP 2015 THE FINAL WRAP - by Dave It has been my absolute honour and privilege to be able to work with such a wonderful group of young athletes over the past 11 days. They have been a huge inspiration to me for their application, tenacity and execution in the pool and their friendly nature, great manners and excellent behaviour. They are a real credit to themselves and their parents, congratulations. I have to acknowledge the contributions of many people who made the camp the success it has been. - Angela Gordon who put together many of the logistics for the camp - Our magnificent management team Melissa, Chris, Amie, Scott and Marietta who worked so hard, often late at night, to make sure everything ran smoothly and all the athletes were well cared for. I want to single out Melissa for her contribution. She was my “go to” person for so much prior to and during the camp and her help was very much appreciated. - My Assistant coach Fiona who was hugely supportive and willing to pass on her knowledge and to learn from the athletes themselves. We wish her well for her future endeavours in the UK. I want to congratulate our rookie athletes who were on their first camp. These athletes have just started on the pathway and I remind them that while they were the rookies this year they will move through the pathway and will be the oldest soon, so need to remember how they felt and how they were encouraged and supported by their older team mates. This is all about building a great culture. Well done to Amy, Joe, Wilson, Chris R, Bayleigh, Natasha, Cameron, Calum, Taylor, Ezra and Bella. I also want to thank Greymouth branch of Aquagym and the swimmers Mason and Ben who have done a fantastic job. They brought a lot to the camp and quickly became part of the team. I am looking forward to seeing their results in upcoming meets and continuing the relationship being built up between the two clubs. Another team member whose contribution that I want to acknowledge is Nick. Nick has brought a completely different perspective to our training with his experiences from athletics and triathlon. He has made some hugely significant gains this past 2 weeks with his swimming. He will be the first to acknowledge that it is still work in progress but I believe that the next 12 months will be career defining for him and I am really excited to be part of that. Finally I want to acknowledge my club captains, Charles and Sammy for their leadership throughout the camp. They are both an inspiration to me and have a great rapport with all of the athletes and are always willing to help. Athletes, in summary – - You all achieved some goals this week. Many of you were well outside your comfort zone so will have exceeded your goals. - You all achieved some success often in different forms this week. - You all learnt something (I hope) - You all had a good time and made life-long friends
