Nepal will play FIRST EVER T20I SERIES vs HONGKONG : Following a request from the ACC Development Manager Bandula Warnapura, Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee has approved tours by the top four Asian Associates to the island, Afghanistan, Hong Kong Nepal and the UAE. The decision has been taken, say Sri Lanka Cricket, to support the regions Non-Test playing countries. The first ACC touring teams to Sri Lanka will be Hong Kong and Nepal in November. “It’s a very beneficial offer by Sri Lanka,” says the ACC Development Manager, “not only can our teams play high-level cricket, they will be exposed to facilities and a cricket culture that will help to develop their abilities in preparation for global events.” The former Sri Lanka captain has been instrumental in setting up the tours which will include four three day-matches against SLC representative sides, along with a 50-over game and three Twenty20 internationals between Hong Kong and Nepal. The majority of the Hong Kong squad will be arriving from Brisbane where they will have been undergoing warm-weather training, with their Director of Cricket Charlie Burke expressing gratitude “for the opportunity…Hong Kong are delighted to accept this offer.” Nepal’s coach Pubudu Dassanayake is similarly “grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to play the first ever T20I series as well as the three-day games.” The teams will be based at Kurunegala and Dambulla for their matches. Hong Kong and Nepal will not need to play the ACC Twenty20 in 2015 as their T20I status following the last World Twenty20 has already placed them in the ICC WorldTwenty20 Qualifier to be held in Ireland next year. The process to have Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Nepal and UAE succeed again has started.
