Nepali cricket team broke a four- match losing streak of the Sri Lanka n tour when they defeated the North Eastern Province by 168 runs in their fifth match at Moors Sports Complex on Tuesday. Nepali batters, who had failed to answer the intimidating Sri Lankan bowling attack, showed some grace this time with Anil Mandal scoring the match’s highest 64 runs while skipper Paras Khadka and Binod Bhandari contributed 37 and 30 runs respectively. Avinash Karn and Sharad Vesawkar then returned to claim three wickets each while Chandra Sawad bagged two wickets to restrict their opponents to 108 runs to securetheir maiden win of the tour. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Nepal made a fiery start with openers Subash Khakurel and Mandal sending the ball across the fence occasionally. Khakurel quick-fired 26runs off 39 balls, that including three boundaries and a six while his partner Mandal’s inning included seven fours and a six. Setting the initial tempo of the game and thereby instigating confidence upon their teammates, a partnership of Gyanendra Malla and Khadka continued the momentum. Malla made 17 of 26 balls while Khadka’s blistering knock with superior confidence saw him begetting 37 runs with a ball more that included four boundaries and a six. Apart from bowler Shakti Gauchan, every other Nepali batsmen scored in double digits. Veshwawkar contributed 20 runs, Sagar Pun made 11 runs and Rahul Vishwakarma remained not out at 25 runs, amassing mammoth 277 runs, including 29 extras, in allotted 50 overs.
