Networking Through the Holidays By Shawn McCarthy It’s the holiday season once again. You probably will be going to many social events during this time. However, just because its “that time of year,” keep in mind that business networking opportunities can occur on any day, anywhere and anytime, including during this time of year. Master networkers know this and find opportunities for their referral partners all year round. Although we expect to network at business functions, (such as the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce mixers and breakfasts), on the golf course, or in organized networking groups, opportunities also occur in places and times we may not realize, such as holiday parties or events. And, yes, you can network at such events if you remember these three words: “Honor the Event!” In other words, you will still be networking, but you need to network differently at a holiday party than you would at an after-hours mixer or similar event. I’ve networked at such events with good results. The main thing is to keep your eyes and ears open see how you can help others--after all, helping others is the true meaning of networking.
