During the same period the National PTA is hosting their convention in Austin with Arne Duncan as their key-note speaker. Now isnt that strange?? TX never signed on to Common Core. So isnt it kind of strange they would host their annual PTA conference in Texas? It is not strange at all. There have been communities in Texas that have taken advantage of Race To The Top District. The program created by the Obama administration that enables Local Education Agencies (LEA) to by-pass the state and go straight to the federal government for funding but of course the same strings are attached to RTTT-D as the regular RTTT program. So Women On The Wall of Texas decided we needed to hold a counter convention (right across the street from the PTA convention). It is our hope that this convention will draw a lot more people than the Annual PTA convention. You might also want to check with your local PTA to see if they are sending any members. I am told that states are sending everyday PTA moms to the convention in order to convince them how wonderful Common Core really is. Also ask who is paying to send them to the convention. I am told Title 1 funding is being used to pay their way to the convention. THIS IS OUR TIME to show them we are a powerful force. If you have wanted to meet people from all over the country this is your opportunity. The summit is 2 days.
