Neuroscience is now so foundational for knowledge of human thought and action that to remain current you have to know the contours, if not the details. I cant imagine doing political science anymore, for example, without being conversant with the latest results of neuroscience research. Thank God we have a President Obama who believes in science and who has ordered a major initiative in brain research on the scale of the human genome project and the Hubble telescope project. But this is not the sort of thing noted by cable television or political discourse. It will be of great importance, however, when historians assess a president.
