Neuse River, North Carolina Fishing Report 12/9/2014 Speckled trout fishing has been excellent in the creeks off the Neuse River. The water is cool with temps in the mid to low 50’s so light and slow has been the best approach. 1/16th and 1/8 ounce DOA CAL jig heads have produced well when paired with both curl tail and 3 inch shad tails. 444 Teal Ice, 419 Green Back, 420 Stark Naked and 309 Glow Gold have been the best of the color selections. 4 inch CAL jerk back rigged weedless with 1/8 ounce weights have produced big fish, including this 28.5 inch monster speck. Striper fishing has been good in the New Bern area with 1/4 ounce CAL heads with both 3 inch shad tails and 4 inch jerk baits both producing. 330 pearl, 309 glow holo and 385 glow chartreuse tail have been the better colors.
