Never fear -- it will go on (but it might take a while.) He woke hungry in a square of sunlight that showed off how dusty the room really was. He had to unearth the door to the powder room. The water ran dirty brown from the sink faucets for several minutes. The toilet been winterized. Oh dude, you just got to be kidding. Im going to live here? Chances for a hot shower any time soon looked slim. The kitchen had neither refrigerator nor stove. He had expected to find them broken, but he didnt expect that they never existed in the first place. The counters were covered with the same clutter elsewhere. He opened a drawer, expecting either silverware or clutter. They were completely empty. Never give up, never surrender. Joshua took a deep breath and considered his options. Assuming Decker was down until sunset, it would be hours before he woke up or whatever he did. At least, in the movies, vampires didnt come out until nightfall. Since Decker had dashed off to bed before sunrise, that was probably a truth. Maybe. Joshua picked up the silver vase in the front hallway filled with coins and Deckers phone. With the two, he should be able to a supermarket and buy food and cleaning supplies. # Shaws turned out to be a massive grocery store. Hed never seen anything so big, even in the next town over. He poured out the coins and watched as it clicked through counting. The guard wondered over to eye the silver vase. Thats not a funeral urn is it? What? Joshua eyed the vessel in panic. Oh god, it probably was. No! No, its just -- some – metal flower vase. Oh. Looks like what my girlfriends father is in. I always thought it was a little creepy to have a family member sitting on the mantle. When Im sleeping over, I hide him in the closet. Joshua nodded and eyed the urn. Who the hell had been in it? What had Decker done with the ashes? Did he at least wash it before filling it with coins? The counter stopped clicking. There been ninety-three dollars inside the urn. Hed never been shopping by himself. Sure hed run into a convenience store with five dollars to spend, but never close to a hundred dollars with so many things he wanted to buy. Since his mouth tasted like something had died inside it, he started with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Five bucks to get minty fresh. Another three for a bar of soap, a comb, and a travel-sized bottle of shampoo. There been no toilet paper in the powder room, so he was guessing there was none in the entire house. He was not wiping his butt with newspaper. He got a four-pack of store brand toilet paper, wincing at the price. Maybe he should rethink the newspaper
