Never had a Christmas tree prior to marriage but my parents would - TopicsExpress

Never had a Christmas tree prior to marriage but my parents would let me leave Santa milk and a snack Christmas eve on the fireplace hearth. There was an unwrapped gift on the hearth Christmas morning. It seems we celebrated Santa Claus and gift giving with no Christ in the picture. After marriage to a non Jew we celebrated exactly the same but with a tree. I say it was a totally different holiday than the one Christians celebrate coincidentally falling on the Christian holiday Christmas. Both with morning gifts and the cheer; Merry Christmas. Of course this is looked upon by many Christians as an affront to their definition of the Christmas holiday but this is how I grew up. I didnt learn about the true holiday meaning till I was much older. Concerning the feeling Christians may have toward our celebration Christmas morning- it is what my parents created in our home with no negativity spoken or implied concerning Christianity and their little girl had a gift to show when all the kids got together to discuss their Christmas morning booty. This practice seemed common place and normal back then in the late 50s. We also celebrated Chanukah. Ive have Jewish friends who are offended by this tradition but heck, our creation, celebration and fun in our home should have no bearing. We also celebrated the holiday of the Bunny and valentines Day-- heck we liked celebrating! Praise to Santy Claus.
