Never judge someone by their past, people change over time and the person you thought poorly of back then may be a totally different person today. Everyone deserves the chance to make atonement for their actions, it does not mean you have to forget what they did nor forgive them for their hurtful ways. If you purely judge on what they were like in the past you lose the opportunity to see the person they have grown to become, a person you may now like. We are all capable of change, it is only the willingness to change that holds people back. If you look around you, you will find people from all walks of life that have turned their lives around. These people are often those who have gone through a difficulty or a tragedy and made a decision to become a better person. I watched The Secret Millionaire episode where a man who ran a charity told the millionaire of his past experience, how he had 64 convictions against him. How he lost his children to the foster system. How he used 1000 pounds a day to buy heroin and how he used to get the funds to do it. He trafficked narcotics by swallowing condoms, he lost everything he had in life. No money, no family, no home. He was destitute and in the street. When he went before the magistrate he asked for one more chance to redeem himself and swore that if he was given another chance he would prove his usefulness to mankind. This man now runs a charity that provides food for the homeless and blankets when possible and counseling. The millionaire was disgusted by the mans past but was wise enough to see that this man had changed for the better and that through his own hardships had become very astute in being able to reach people who are most vulnerable and help them. Luckily, the millionaire overcame her very grave reservations and closed her mind to the past and only saw the person before her at that time.
