Never mind being an indelible fixture in pop music as far as being iconic, irreverent and beautifully odd goes. It makes me quite angry when people focus on the fact that Debbie Harry is nearly 70, aged in both body and voice. Just because theyre so used to live-autotuned, lipsynching waxworks mummified in bronzer and locked in Bodycon. Im fastidious about vocals- ooh will she get that famous E5!?? Screw that, see past the wrinkles and fatigue. If we tolerate those beauty sins encircling Mick Jaggers porcelain veneers, or have the balls to say to Iggy Pop that his tits are now beige sandwich bags, we can practically thank Debbie Harry for not following to modern trends and doing what she does. Just what she does.
