Never mind the fact Idris Elba hates the phrase BlackBond.. Also... his previously and oft stated stance on being offered the 007 role is a PERFECT critique of the bigoted cross section of society with their tightie whities in a bunch over the possiblity. I understand, though. We Da Brothers feel a stereotypically larger twinge when exposed to ridiculous rationale exonerating major producers for routine and unapologetic exclusion of Black Actors in films like Exodus.. or Noah.. Or Son of God.. or, pretty much any major religious film of our generation.. In that sense, we feel you. Relax.. its not that serious, I assure you. None of us want that type of headache. Heres where we are. Its pretty simple, even.. its time to work towards maximizing our uniqueness as opposed to striving for acceptance by those who have proven time and again to hate, dislike, or want separation from us. Elba is an accomplished actor with tremendous range. We need better roles that will allow him (and the likes) to transcend expectations we have for our brightest... not more recycled, traditionally European or adapted roles that suppress our creative genius and stifle both collective and individualized bravado. Hats off to Elba for garnering legitimate consideration for such a coveted role. This all came based on his skill and image as an actor, but I wouldnt wish that type of undue critique, hatred or stupidity on anyone.. To do so would tarnish his legacy as a thespian. We all know Brother Elba could pull it off.. with the style, attitude, and machismo that only he could. However, lets be real... Elba as Bond would draw countless, baseless protests from racially hypersensitized audiences desperate for an opportunity to point the finger of blame away from themselves. Those waving signs in protest would surely be too emotional to even realize the irony of their disdain. Imagine that..denying the plausibility of a Black actor depicting the ultimate je ne sais quoi and enjoying privilege, license to kill AND immunity. #merrychristmas
