Never too Old to Learn Dept. Watched Every Little Step, the documentary about the casting process for the 2007 Bway revival of A Chorus Line. Final callbacks for Cassie. Four women left-all fantastic dancers. Admittedly, the movie only shows a small fraction of each dancers final audition: dancing, acting, singing. Nevertheless, at some point while they were singing and acting, the three women who didnt get the job all closed their eyes at pivotal emotional moments. Fatal mistake, IMO. By closing their eyes at the crucial moment, their feelings became private-they shut the audience out. Charlotte DAmboise, who got the job, always kept her eyes open and Cassies desperate, naked need and vulnerability shot right out of her into my head-she SHARED. All four were powerful, but CD was the only one who totally shared and the difference was electric, immediate and manifest. Note to self: How often do I close my eyes to indulge in a private, unshared emotional moment?
