#NeverGiveUp Meet Elizabeth Bress Vonderhaar, the phenomenal woman, who rose from her past that was rooted in the pain of being disabled to fulfilling the mission of her life which was, not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style” Born in Bolivia with a congenital disorder that left her without a fibula in her right leg, Elizabeth endured seven unsuccessful surgeries throughout her childhood. At the age of 11, she made the traumatic decision of getting her leg amputated below the knee. Life without a limb at such a young age took a heavy toll of her self-esteem and self-worth. Having completed Masters in Marketing, Elizabeth pursued a successful career in sales and rose up to being a successful businesswoman. However her mind was still not free of the years of encumbrance associated with her disability. In search for peace and inner happiness and to fulfill her dream of acting and modelling, Elizabeth moved to New York. Aside from getting a role in the film, “The Death Of Saint Eulalia”, in 2001 she was able to find for the first time in New York, the quality of prosthetics that she only had dreamed for the past 26 years. This leg was not only very highly functional but also looked as similar as possible to the human skin. In 2002 Elizabeth moved to San Diego. By 2004 she represented her country Bolivia as Mrs Bolivia International 2004 in the city of Chicago earning 11th place. During the same year she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting and modeling career. In 2008, Elizabeth joined Specialized Orthopedic Solutions (SOS MEDICAL) with Jeffrey VonderHaar (now her husband) as a managing partner. Never giving up on her dream of finding an artist that could replicate the work she was able to get in NY on her prothesis, in 2011 Elizabeth met the best legs/hands/foot sculptor in Los Angeles. In January of 2013, Elizabeths long lasting dream became a reality bringing the prosthetics functionalist issues to bear on the artwork and vice versa for the customized needs of amputee patients at SOS. Over a period of time, she and Jeffery have been able to impart a better quality of life to less fortunate people through their non-profit organization, SOS. Today Elizabeth Bress is living a fulfilling life. She gathered the courage to be not reduced by the events of her life. She did not wait for life to happen nor for opportunities to knock at her door. She took the leap of faith and paved the way for opportunities to fulfill her dreams! Not only did she change her life for good but she is also the beacon of light and hope for those who have endured the pain of disability! We wish her all the best in all her endeavors! We also convey our heart felt thanks to her for supporting Rajesh Speaks Community by LIKING and SHARING our posts on hers and on SOS FB.
