Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8.) When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him, and the Redeemer shall come to Zion. (Isa. 59:19-20.) The waves of doubt dash high!... ... Shall they oerflow The faith in God, and over saints prevail? The bulwarks of the faithful, shall they fail? Shall unbelief in riot overflow, And leave behind its trail of shame and woe? Shall atheism this dark world assail, Till faith shall falter, stagger, and shall quail A fettered, fallen, and a vanquished foe? The waves of death dash high!... ... They leap and break! The blood of martyrs soils the earth again, The Antichrist in heartless rage doth reign, His thunders roar, He makes the earth to quake. The Lord descends the sky!... ... With power and might The man-of-sin is banished, and the earth Awakes, as in the throes of second birth; Faith mounts the throne, and scatters back the night. THE Bible does not leave us ignorant of coming events. The present day sweep and sway of modernism, and skepticism with denials of the faith, by no means alarm the saints. God has fore-armed us, because He has forewarned us. The waves of doubt may dash high; the enemy may come in like a flood, however, Satan, the Antichrist, and their host of doubters shall not long prevail. For a while there may be a famine, not of bread, nor a thirst for water, but for the Word of the Lord; yet, that famine shall not haunt men forever. The Lords return will put an end to Satans reign of terror. The Lord is coming soon, and the call of Christ to the church is a call to faithfulness and fidelity to Him. Perhaps no message of the Bible presents a stronger appeal to us, in view of the Lords imminent return, than the story of the Shulamite of Solomons Song in her faithfulness to her Shepherd lover.
