Neville was nervous. It was his first day ever of being known as Professor Longbottom. Of course he was going to be doing the thing he loved most and teaching would make it so much better. But still he worried he would be just as unpopular his first day of teaching as he was on his first day of school. Of course he neednt have worried. His first lesson came early the morning after the start of year feast. A group of Gryffindor’s and Hufflepuff’s filed eagerly into greenhouse one by one and before he could even open his mouth to begin the lesson he was bombarded with questions, comments and compliments. Neville started chuckling at how foolish he had been to have felt nervous. Alright settle down. Any questions please raise your hand everybody in the entire class raised their hands. Any questions about Herbology? he asked quite amused. Every hand but one dropped. Neville motioned for the little blonde girl, who had left her hand in the air, to ask her question. Is Herbology the best subject because you chose to teach it? Neville sighed Not exactly what I was looking for miss- Key, Stacie Key Neville took a deep breath, trying not to burst out laughing. Well Stacie Im actually here to teach you about Herbology, not myself the class groaned. Well he said thoughtfully I suppose I could tell you a few stories from back in the good old days... but not during classroom hours, Professor McGonagall would not be pleased this coaxed a nervous giggle from the class but I suppose if youre interested I could set up something for Friday after lessons end, well use the old History of Magic classroom until dinnertime, how does that sound? Good? Alright then back to Herbology... Neville met similar situations in all of his classes, every day for the rest of the week, and each time repeated the same thing he told his first class, he would answer all questions after school on Friday. Neville had half expected most of the students to have forgotten his little meeting but when Friday finally came, Neville arrived at the classroom and found it crammed full of students of all ages and houses, he had to admit it was strange seeing Slytherins so happy to see him, each sitting on desks, chairs, the floor, stairs and even under the tables. So many had come just to hear about him. It was weird. When the noise finally died down Neville took the last remaining seat at the head of the room. “I know I set up this… meeting to just answer questions but now that I’m here I don’t really think that it would do the story justice” the room was completely silent, the students hung on to his every word “I think the only way for all of you to really… understand my answers would be if I told you all everything I know and saw, starting from the beginning. Of course if you all don’t want to hear me go on and on then just let me know” nobody spoke, nobody could keep their eyes off their brave, smart, famous, teacher. “Ok then, from the beginning. Well I suppose it all started with a plump, round-face, unpopular, boy with a toad he could never seem to stop losing…” - Cristie
