New Barnardos chief eyes strategic role in childrens services Barnardo’s new chief executive wants the charity to manage, commission and deliver statutory children’s services in partnership with local authorities as it evolves into a more strategic organisation over the next few years. The continual erosion of public services is further undermined by, not only private sector organisations such as Serco, Capita, CfBT, etc, but now we have the Charities entering the wonderful world of competitive procurement, marketization of public services, and the further demise of Local Authorities, local accountability and local democracy. On what basis do they think that they SHOULD be doing this? Is it that they have an enviable track record in the delivery of Quality, statutory children’s services? Or is it that they know with their cash reserves they can bid aggressively for public services? I mean we all know what outstanding Inspection results the large Charities have had for the Children’s Centres they have been commissioned to run!!! Or do we?! And finally I am not a Legal expert but just when did it become acceptable that Charities behave like private sector businesses and compete in the same markets?
