New Bethesda Entrance Drawing Complaints The Member of the Legislature for Steinbach says there is growing discontent with the new entrance at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre. Kelvin Goertzen says he is hearing more and more concern about the wheel chair ramp and steep steps. The ramp for the wheelchair access is quite narrow. It has a steep turn so its difficult for people to get up the wheelchair ramp. And, those who are able to walk, but perhaps with some challenges, have a hard time with the stairs that they now have to go up. Those concerns have been raised with me, first by doctors who are hearing it from their patients, and now Im hearing it from constituents as well. Goertzen adds he is not looking to place blame but wants the province to take a second look at the design of the ramp and stairs. Ive written the Minister of Health and asked her to take a look at it. Are there ways to ensure that one can actually get into the hospital more easily? For those who are able-bodied, its something we dont always think about but, for those who are in wheelchairs or are dealing with loved ones who are in wheelchairs, or just have a harder time walking, steep ramps and a lot of stairs can be very difficult, particularly at a hospital, where a lot of people are coming with some of those diminished capacities.
