New Campaign: Smarter citizen better India ================================ Spent the evening discussion education system with concerned parents... Its an open secret that in some schools students in 8-9th grade have the reading/comprehension level of a 3-4 grader :( After a very interesting exchanges of ideas returned home and logged in to FB to find requests by old friends to comment on some articles. May be it was the proximity of discussions but I finally realized why some of my friends jump to conclusions based on twisted,catchy headlines and fail to read the entire article which puts the headline statement in context. Our education system is so bad that some of the people with the reading comprehension level of a 3rd grader managed to get through engineering :( By the time they manage to stitch alphabets to form words, look up words in the dictionary and read the headlines they would have spent an hour. If we expect them to read the article we can assume it is a full days labor for these poor guys, So they do the next best thing, They go into full panic mode and tag me on the article asking vijay what do you say about this. And I go in these long discussions (Something similar to this post) where I explain the content of the article which again being in english and long (Remember how much time they require to read an article) they promptly ignore my writings and cut+paste a different article where they have again not progressed beyond the headlines... As a part of nation building activities I am willing to take free weekend remedial classes to teach my friends and friends of friends the basic reading skills. You will learn how to read articles, how to followup and verify references, how to read between the lines to get to the truth and finally why all that is written is not true. Two seats are reserved for the guys who tried to engage me in a discussion based on an article headline which contradicts the content (you know who you are, One of you is trying to PM me right now :) ) My friends are free to nominate(in the comments below) some of their personal trolls to this class
