New Dark Side out today, so be sure to check it out. Just heard of the death of Tom Adams, who was always a favourite of mine from the movies he made with the late Lindsay Shonteff, especially The Fast Kill, where he was the criminal mastermind behind a jewel robbery. His master plan there was to wait until the cops arrived on the scene after the alarms went off, and then machine gun them all to death. Genius. While he was best known for his Allied Carpets adverts, Tom also appeared in The House That Dripped Blood and the Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense episode Mark of the Devil. He had quite a decent role in The Great Escape (he carpeted Tom Dick and Harry on behalf of Allied), but Toms signature part was that of secret agent Charles Vine, a man who made James Bonds memoirs look like the ramblings of a backward choirboy. Heres a great clip from Licensed To Kill (1965) which shows him dealing with an everyday traffic stop in a typically cool manner. RIP Tom, just like the bad guys here well miss you.
