New Documentary Explains Why We Fear Black Men So Much A new documentary coming on the heels of national uproar over the deaths of young, defenseless black men, will target the stereotypes that perpetuate the violence and mistrust. The film, “Afraid of the Dark,” is written and directed by Mya B., according to a report in the Huffington Post. In it she interviews rappers, actors and politicians who describe their own experiences with prejudice. “I wanted to analyze the damaging stereotypes of black men which has led to them being murdered and criminalized,” Mya B. said. “I also wanted black men to receive their glory outside of all the bad things you hear in the media and profile the amazing black men I know and who are in our communities.
