New Employment Opportunity MIKISEW CREE FIRST NATION Position: PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR Mikisew Technical Services is seeking a Public Works Supervisor. The candidate will supervise the employees in the Public Works department. The Public Works Supervisor will work under the supervision and reports to the Director Mikisew Technical Services. Duties and Responsibilities • Direct, supervise, schedule and control activities of the Public Works department in maintenance and operation of utilities, grounds, roads and hydrants and recreation facilities. The Public Works Supervisor is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of all Public Works functions, including streets and roads, drainage, parks and playground, animal control, vehicle and equipment maintenance, solid waste collection and water and sewer operations, in accordance with prevailing standards and management direction. • Assist in planning and developing programs for the construction or rehabilitation and maintenance of streets, roads, lanes, sidewalks and ditches, sewer and water systems. • Assist and coordinate with engineers and contractors working on approved projects, observe and report all deficiencies and defects to the Director MTS. • Assist in preparing an annual operating budget of MCFN Public Works department. Qualifications • The right candidate will be motivated and willing to undertake new certification as required. • Valid First Aid. • Safety training - WHMIS, TDG, etc. • A minimum of a Class 5 driver’s license is required, with a clean drivers extract. • Preferred 2 year Post-Secondary Diploma (Engineering Technology related field). • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent (GED) • Knowledge of the Cree language a definite asset Experience • Minimum five (5) years proven experience in a similar related experience. • Working knowledge of related legislation and regulations and knowledge of employment standards and human rights. • Management training is an asset. • Ability to work closely with the director in all matters relating to the Public Works. • Familiar with industry safety requirement, practices, and regulations. Skills • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to handle a complex and varied workload, often under pressure, in a flexible manner. • Ability to provide direction and supervision for subordinates. • Ability to research, compose and present written and verbal reports as required, using industry software such as Microsoft Office. • Ability to operate equipment, such as water truck, sewer truck and miscellaneous tools and equipment. • Ability to work as a team player within the department and overall organization. • Ability to present a neat appearance and to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
