New Englanders have performed well at the World Juniors in Eugene Oregon this week. Four were in action yesterday. Elinor Purrier (UNH/Montgomery VT) had the 3,000m steeplechase of her life, setting personal best of 10:08.33 and qualifying for the final. Charles Ionata (Barrington RI) had his best hammer throw ever with the 6kg international implement, adding more than seven feet to his PR with a 69.93m/229-5 that ranked him 20th overall. Clarence Gallop (Providence RI) threw a strong 65.95m/216-4 for 24th. Harvard’s Jade Miller won her heat of the women’s 400m hurdles in 57.85 and guaranteed herself a spot in the semifinal. Jon Green (Shrewsbury MA) placed 24 (31:15.69) in the 10,000 on Tuesday. iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-world-junior-championships
