New Feature: Entertainment and Satire of the day! Enjoy and please share! Tesoro, having changed their name: AKA Vancouver Energy has dispelled all the false myths and rumors that were circulating around Vancouver and the entire NorthWest. They feel strongly that the public should and can and will trust them with a little more education.: Ahhhhh, it is nice to know that everything that the public preconception and horrible image that was Tesoros, will now be corrected by the new corporate name. I feel so happy, its like they just gave me a big hug and a coupon for a free pizza. Myths vs. Facts: 1.FACT: This project is dangerous to the environment people who live, work or travel within a couple of miles of the tracks or facilities, will affect air quality, and harm wildlife. MYTH: The proposed terminal will be designed, constructed and operated in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. The EFSEC process is in place to ensure that happens. The terminal is being carefully designed to meet or exceed permissible air emissions, as well as water quality and environmental standards. Because we know that (ahem) Vancouver Energy aka tesoro, has a loooooong history of safety, keeping their word and allowing federal inspectors 2.FACT: Safety planning and first responder preparedness is lacking. MYTH: Protection of the terminal employees, the surrounding community, first responders and the environment will be incorporated into every aspect of the terminal’s design. Vancouver Energy, the Port, and BNSF have provided the state with in-depth marine, rail and land safety, and incident preparedness plans. These plans commit to creating the most modern, safety-centric operation possible and thousands of work hours for incident prevention and response training for all first responders. 3.FACT: They will eventually build a refinery, or a second, larger facility here. MYTH: There is no plan to build a refinery or additional distribution facility in Vancouver. A refinery would not be allowed under the lease between Vancouver Energy and the Port. We saw a unique opportunity to leverage the Port’s underutilized marine and rail assets to economically benefit the Greater Vancouver area and decrease our country’s growing dependence on foreign oil. 4.FACT: The economic benefits of this project on the community are minimal. MYTH: The Terminal will generate nearly $5.2 million in annual taxes for the state, city and county and will create 250 construction jobs and up to 120 permanent, living-wage jobs, many sourced from the local area. 5.FACT: The Vancouver Energy project was decided on by the Port and others without involving the public in the decision-making process. MYTH: Port Commissioners held five public workshops to hear from local and regional experts on a wide variety of issues related to the transport and storage of crude oil, as well as economic benefits, before approving the lease. Community members were invited to share their thoughts, concerns and questions. We feel we must give credit where it is due: For more information and to see the highly paid media and marketing strategy of Tesoro/Savage, which is now known as Vancouver energy: the shiny, bright, safe , fluffy animal loving, caring, community member ,job donating oil corporation, pipeline on wheels along the Columbia River to Vancouver, non exporting terminal to china or anywhere in asia, existing for the sole benefit of Americans, responsible, clean, environmentally minded corporation….etc… tada...“Vancouver Energy! ;) go to: vancouverenergyusa
