New Football Centre of Development is launched in the Vale Barry Town United Football Club, in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, has launched a new Football Centre of Development for the Vale at Barry Sports Centre. The centre’s principle focus is on player development with the assistance of Football Association of Wales (FAW) qualified coaches. Councillor Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks, Culture and Sports Development, said: “The new centre provides an ideal environment for young players to develop their skill levels under the supervision of committed and experienced coaches. I am pleased that the Council has been able to support this initiative and I hope local clubs will offer their support by recommending their best players to the centre. All players included in the Centre of Development will play for their own clubs and come together once a week for specialist training.” Gavin Chesterfield, First Team Manager for Barry Town United added: “Barry Town United Football Club is firmly committed to contributing to the local community. The new Centre of Development is key to this commitment and will enable us to work with local football clubs to further improve the quality of young players in the Vale of Glamorgan.” The Football Association of Wales regional trust team are supporting the new centre, acknowledging that Barry Town United is a bronze level accredited organisation within the FAWs flagship accreditation program. The club is already working towards FAW Academy status, with the launch of the Development Centre playing a key role in helping to achieve this status which will be recognised in the official player pathway.
