New Jersey Courts Career Opportunities Central Office POSITION TITLE: Judiciary Clerk 3 Support Staff Band Level 3 – Journey (Unclassified) LOCATION: Supreme Court Clerk’s Office Bar Admissions Unit Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex Trenton, NJ OPENING DATE: January 28, 2014 CLOSING DATE: February 26, 2014 SALARY RANGE: $37,096 - $56,184* ANNOUNCEMENT: #14-04-24 POSITION NO.: 944160 POSITION DESCRIPTION The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized, customer service oriented individual with office skills to provide a variety of administrative clerical and support functions for the Bar Admissions Unit of the Supreme Court. Under the direction of the supervisor, responsibilities include but are not limited to: working with bar applicants; preparing case files; utilizing and performing data entry on automated systems; providing and analyzing reports for distribution or action; composing non-routine correspondence; administering or assisting in the administration of a bar exam site in February and July; maintaining accurate records and files; recording fee payments; document processing; preparing deficiency notices; file and perform other clerical and support functions in the unit as needed. REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, transcribing information, reconciling balances or accounts, scheduling meetings or appointments. TESTING: Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of at least 25 words per minute, or must have otherwise demonstrated this competency as detailed below. The appointing authority administered examination is waived for the following applicants who have been deemed to possess keyboarding skills at the Judiciary standard of 25 words per minute: • All applicants who possess a current typing proficiency certification issued by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or the New Jersey Judiciary. • Judiciary staff that have permanent status in a career service title requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test. • Judiciary staff in unclassified titles requiring a keyboarding, typing or stenography test. DRIVER’S LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a drivers license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. SPECIAL NOTE: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information. RESIDENCY LAW: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act,” which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the Judiciary on or after that date shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. New Jersey state employees hired prior to September 1, 2011 who transfer from within the Judiciary or from another State of New Jersey appointing authority without a break in service greater than seven days but who reside outside the State of New Jersey are not required to change their principal residence to New Jersey in order to comply with the Act. Terms and conditions of employment will be governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees who are hired directly from another branch of New Jersey state government may be hired at up to 5% above the salary they were being paid in the other branch of government. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range or up to 15% above the minimum salary based on education and experience; however, a higher salary may be approved based upon the particular qualifications of the selected candidate or the difficulty of the recruitment. In no case may the employee be paid more than the maximum salary for the title.
