New Job Quantity Surveyor - DC/1401-244 Industry: Building and Construction Job Type: Permanent Location: Southampton, England Salary: Excellent Benefits Quantity Surveyor A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join my clients growing team based in Southampton. They are looking for a driven, dynamic, and commercially-focused Intermediate Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor who has worked in either the Education, Commercial, Industrial or Residential sectors. The business is a fast emerging player in the property and infrastructure consultancy markets, capable of challenging the status quo and delivering outstanding client facing results. The Role & Responsibilities You will provide effective delivery of full cost-management services to ensure that a high level of technical, financial and commercial control is always maintained on projects to which you are assigned. On a daily basis, you will be responsible for carrying out any of the following aspects of the Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor function as and when necessary to ensure the highest level of service is provided to the project or team you are assigned to: Key Responsibilities: Pre-Contract * Drawing measurements: Taking off and producing budget cost estimates and cost planning, using systems such as BCIS online, benchmarking with internal data, and pricing data using SPONS. * Tender document production: Preliminaries, Pricing Documents, Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Work. * Compiling Contract Documents. * Value engineering: Reviewing cost benefits of alternative materials and construction scope. * Reviewing tender returns: Analysing, writing reports, making recommendations for appointment. * Attending design team meetings: minute taking, liaising with Designers, developing costs in association with client requirements. Post Contract * Site visits to review application for payment. * Continuing development of cost plans: Cost reporting upon start-on-site date. * Valuation certificate production / reviewing contractors application for payment. * Two-stage tender procurement: Analysis of sub-contractor packages with contractor, and reviewing options. * Preparation of financial reports during the construction phase * Assessment and negotiation of final accounts * Value engineering workshops and analysis. * Undertake full post contract management of small - medium sized projects Financial Management and MOB Reporting * Filing and updating project folders (electronically and hard copies). * Providing general support for senior surveyors and above on all aspects of the QS role both pre contract and post contract. * Provide project information to marketing and for cost planning as required. * You are required to complete any other reasonable tasks requested by your manager. * Promote and develop a commercially robust way of working and approach to contract-management, in order to avoid exposure to commercial risk, and to ensure residual risks are professionally managed, mitigated and communicated. * Assist in successful delivery of KPIs, through adopting a service or delivery led approach to satisfying the performance requirements necessary to successfully achieve the KPI. * Take ownership of KPIs related to Profit Centre business. Responsibility of ensuring this is correctly managed and correct procedures are in place in order to achieve effective management. * Ensure any direct reports (Junior Staff) deliver projects effectively and efficiently. * Maintain close relationships with existing key clients and addressing concerns, to maintain high levels of satisfaction, and develop new client relationships. * Satisfy timely requirements of the reporting function to the Cost Management Associate Director and the business at large. * Actively pursue new business opportunities by supporting Business Development and Marketing Teams with PQQs, tenders and fee proposals. * Raise the profile of and promoting of our services through networking, both within My client and across the markets in which they operate. * Ensure compliance with all Quality, Building Regulations, Health & Safety and Environmental regulations and considerations Requirements Essential You will be expected to have or be: * Professionally qualified member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) * Minimum of two years post MRICS experience * Significant experience performing a similar role * Proven experience of delivering business objectives * Proven experience of developing excellent Client relationships * Ability to network and to successfully pursue new business opportunities * Proven experience of successfully influencing a team * Experience of preparing tender and contract documents, using the JCT contract suite of contracts * Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks or projects to deadline and / or budget * Comfortable in client-facing situations, able to influence and convince * The ability to work under direction but to be able to use own initiative when required * Experience working within an ISO 9001 certified environment * Be proficient in MS Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project etc) * Educated to degree level in the relevant discipline or similar * Maintain annual CPD record to develop and maintain knowledge of industry best practices * Excellent report writing and presentation skills * Act as a source of advice and support to others * Commercially aware and financially astute * Full UK driving licence * Prepared to travel and work out of hours as work demands.
