New Job Transport Manager - 56/I2547 Industry: Transport and Rail Job Type: Permanent Location: Huddersfield, England Salary: £30000 - £35000 per annum THE CLIENT: As a result of continued success and an ongoing planned programme of strategic growth an opportunity has arisen within our clients Logistics division for a Transport Manager to join their busy team on a full time basis. Role purpose: To co-ordinate and supervise the day to day function of the General Distribution Department as follows:- To ensure all vehicles in the general distribution fleet are programmed efficiently whilst ensuring empty running is kept to a minimum and profits are maximised. To ensure the maximum number deliveries are sub-contracted at a profit. To ensure all customer requirements are fulfilled to the best of the departments ability. To ensure the team are courteous and considerate to all customers, visitors and staff at all times. To ensure all drivers are operating legally by monitoring hours, breaks, working time, holidays, ADR certificates and licences. To ensure all driver licences are checked for convictions on a six monthly basis and to maintain records of these checks. To ensure that legal requirements are met at all times whilst loading, transporting or delivering cargo. To plan a service schedule for all vehicles in the fleet in accordance with our commitment to the traffic commissioner. To ensure all vehicles are maintained as per the service schedule. To ensure the vehicle fleet are kept in a clean and presentable condition. To ensure all tachograph information is gathered, downloaded and processed in a timely manner. To ensure drivers are given a de-brief at the end of their shift. To upkeep and deliver key performance indicators as requested by the operations director. To maintain discipline within the department including the security team. Accountabilities: The transport manager shall report directly to the operations manager/operations director and must report immediately or as soon as practical the following:- Any incident or accident leading to the injury of one or more of our employees. Any traffic accident involving one of the companys vehicles. Any breach of regulations, i.e. prohibition notice, improvement notice. Critical success factors & key challenges R esponsiveness and ability to make decisions in a timely manner. Have personal and team skills to meet the broad range of tasks required in a busy office. Responsiveness, self motivation and planning to deliver key reporting information to the management team. To have the skills and confidence to work using ones own initiative. To be available to work out of hours/bank holidays as required by the department. (On call alternate weeks). To adapt quickly to ongoing changes within the company whilst continuing to deliver a focused service. To maintain a sense of ownership and pride whilst completing the required tasks. Knowledge, experience & capabilities They must have a detailed knowledge of drivers hours, tachograph rules, and the working time directive and operator license requirements. An in depth knowledge of relevant systems, equipment and procedures. Completed training where appropriate and hold a national and international certificate of professional competence. They need to have good interpersonal skills and they need to be able to communicate and liaise with managers, customers, visitors and other employees with whom they have contact. High personal work standards/attention to detail. The job holders must be largely self-supporting and have the ability to work under pressure with attributes such as accuracy, tenacity, planning and organisation skills. They need to be able to solve problems as they arise and prioritise a range of activities at any one time. Demonstrate capability to be self starting and proactive. BENEFITS: The salary for this job role is up to £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (this is negotiable) and you would be required to work 40 hours per week: Monday-Friday: 8am - 5pm. There is also Saturday and Sunday work (as and when required) which is based on a rota. You will be entitled o 28 days holiday and a stakeholder pension.
