New Men Making Their Mark ALLY McCOIST is encouraged by the way his new players are settling into life at Rangers after seeing them team up well to beat Bristol City yesterday. Of those who started against the Robins, only Lee Wallace, Emilson Cribari, Andy Little and Kyle Hutton were at the club last season. New recruits Cammy Bell, Nicky Law, Nicky Clark, Jon Daly, Richard Foster and Stevie Smith all made the first XI along with trialist defender Belil Mohsni. And although it took until Lewis Macleod’s introduction as a substitute in the second half before the youngster scored the winner, the recent arrivals still impressed. They’ve had three games now since arriving at the club and have been training as part of the wider group for as many weeks now. McCoist likes what he has seen from them so far and is taking a lot of satisfaction from the way they are clicking. He said: “The pre-season campaign is really helping everyone to come together as a group at the moment. “Getting them away up north and now over to Germany both living together and eating with each other is a massive thing for us. “Last year everyone was just thrown in together with no real organisation, no games and certainly not the training schedule we’d have wanted for them. “This time it is very different and everyone is getting to know each other. We’re still in the early stages but everyone is benefitting from the way things are going. “I’m not going to tempt fate in terms of results but looking at our preparations, it’s like night and day between last summer and now. “We’re miles ahead of where we were going into the season last July and you can see that. Our fitness levels are far greater and I’m really pleased with how things are going.” McCoist has seen a lot of the players he previously had at his disposal rise to the challenge of trying to keep their places in his side. And he is thrilled by the fact there is intense competition for places in the team in all areas of the park. The Light Blues boss added: “The boys in midfield are looking good. Lewis is standing out and Kyle Hutton is doing some top-drawer stuff at the moment. “We’ve got people pushing for games which we’re pleased about and that’s a really good thing for us as we move forward.”
