New NIGHT SAFE service launched by YUSU Were proud to announce - TopicsExpress

New NIGHT SAFE service launched by YUSU Were proud to announce that were launching a new service that will provide help and support to students (and others) in vulnerable situations at night in town. The idea is to provide a friendly, non-judgemental face that people can turn to for assistance. The service is similar to the ‘Street Angels’ scheme that already operates in town on Friday and Saturday nights. However, Night Safe will differ in a few key ways: - It is a secular scheme without any religious elements - Night Safe volunteers will have more advanced training, equipping them for all the situations they might encounter on duty, as well as a variety of other situations in later life - Night Safe will operate on YUSU Club nights, focusing on these clubs and the surrounding areas - While the service will help anyone in need, it will focus primarily on students We are now recruiting VOLUNTEERS and TEAM LEADERS to take this service forward. You receive full training, are provided with all necessary equipment and receive a proper qualification. Volunteering with Night Safe can also contribute to the York Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as being a valuable addition to any CV. If this sounds of interest and you would like to be part of a service to help your fellow York students and citizens, then why not get in touch? We only ask for you to volunteer one night a month. And if you would like to gain even more experience, why not volunteer as a team leader? For more information, email [email protected] or pop into the YUSU Helpdesk (the Student Centre, James College) and ask for Cyrus. Use #YUSUNightSafe to get involved in the conversation, and you can also tweet any specific questions to @yorkunisu with the hashtag #NightSafeFAQs.
