New Phone for Christmas? Stay alert, Love Your Phone If you got a new phone or tablet for Christmas, it’s tempting to show all your mates if you’re out on a night out but take care when using mobiles in the street. It is best to avoid texting and checking mobiles while walking along or outside a bar or club when it could be easily be grabbed out of your hand. Keep both hands on the phone and hold it on the building rather than street side of the body to make it harder from thieves on pedal or motorbikes to snatch it. Commander Simon Letchford said: “Whether shopping or enjoying a night out, people need be aware of what they are carrying with them. Expensive gadgets make them ideal targets for thieves. They should take as much care of their phones as they would with their other valuables - they would be reluctant for example to openly display hundreds of pounds worth of cash in the street. There are a number of practical steps they can take to help protect their property - and which will give us the best chance in the event of a robbery or theft of getting their mobiles back to them. I would urge all owners to take the time to carry these out. When receiving a new mobile phone, you should: 1. Activate all of the security features including a pin lock or password 2. Register your phone on Immobilse. 3. Never leave your phone unattended, ie in a car, a bag next to you or in an unattended jackets or coat. 4. Back up data - and wipe it if the phone is stolen. 5. Keep your phone out of reach in busy places, such as in an inside pocket.
