New RBI Governor Dr. Rajan in the memory Lane: Interview of Dr. Rajan I remember my IIT days where we spent days getting Dr. Rajan’s appointment. It was decided we will get Dr. Rajan to IITB-B campus. We tried his secretary and came to know he has conference to attend so cannot come to IIT-B. We were hard-core fans of his growth and him. We requested that we want to talk to Dr. Rajan. Dr. Rajan kindly agreed to give interview via Video Conference from USA. He was IMF Director of Research, those days. I was one of dedicated member of his "fanclub" on Hostel 1 of IIT-B. His Resume and academic credentials where “talk of IIT-B campus” before his interview. Those were B. TECH. IIT Delhi, MBA –IIM A, PHD: MIT USA. It was dream credentials for any Indian Boy. Three days went in preparing interview questions for him. Every article on Google was browsed. First time in my life, I was trying to read Dr. Rajan’s book (saving capitalism from the capitalists) to ask questions and not for any solutions. Hardly understood what he was saying in that book but wanted to prepare questions….to ask him. Questions were, you said this in your book on page so..and so…and u recently gave interview which is different from your view in book…? And he said “Brilliant question to me and other students as well. Voice still very fresh in my head. Apart from his compliment of brilliant question, it was joy of interacting him that made us feel energetic for the entire week. We spoke a lot that night about him on hostel and debated that he is the current biggest talent that IIT had given to India. His confidence , knowledge and more over he won everybody in the auditorium and he campus via Video Conference. Individuals like him inspire Million people, his interview stayed with me after more than 12 years. Some people respect Academic credentials, some people respect success, some people confidence and display great human values. Rajan had all of the above. For me his confidence and knowledge impressed me a lot and that remained with me and I continued to remain his fan after 12-14 long years. Kept reading his articles and his BBC interview and always supported his view over the other economist. Dr. Rajan remained role model of Knowledge and confidence for all of IITB Hostel one group..! I am sure he will bring some changes in Indian economy that will always dreamed of!
