New Release New book release: Navigating the Cultural Maze, by James Perry, ISBN 9780991481187, 176 pages, $12.95 - AUTHOR EXPLAINS THE WAY OUT OF CULTURAL ENTRAPMENT – The final volume of a trilogy masterfully and prophetically warns the church to “navigate the cultural maze.” Using the metaphor of a dark cave to explain the sensational feeling of not having a sense of direction, the author said, “One small flickering light could make a difference.” The rest of the book challenges Christians to be that light. This book was written with the postmodern milieu in mind. However, the author takes a transcending approach toward cultural influences. He argues that the maze (darkness) was produced by moral choices. The church cannot blame the culture. The author says, “Too many churches are trapped by their own cultural maze and enmeshed by the traditional distinctions that have been made for generations.” The author throws the gauntlet into the church. The church needs to repent of its ungodly flirting with an ungodly culture. He identifies three areas concern for the church. First is the casual Christian who wants to demonstrate religious affiliation, but has no serious commitment to personal discipleship. The second area of concern is the compromising clergy. They treat their place in the culture as job rather than a biblical ministry. Third, is the chameleon church that is willing to change to accommodate the culture. Throughout the book there are words of encouragement to follow Jesus Christ and “reach the masses in the cultural maze. Rev.
