New Richmond residents: If you are tagged and you dont live in NR that means I know that you know people in NR. Please share! Please sign the petition! Are you aware that the City of New Richmond is considering building a skateboard park in the Paperjack Greenway located at the corner of County Rd GG and Knowles Avenue? This is currently a green space with Paperjack Creek running through it. The walking trails, trees, wildlife and Paperjack Creek will be affected by the building of this skate park. Concerned citizens of New Richmond are asking that you sign a petition asking the city to stop the construction of the skateboard park until a feasibility study can be done. This study, performed by experts, will determine the best possible location for a skateboard park in the city of New Richmond. Please call your local Heritage Center Board Members, Park Board Members and City Council Members to voice your concern over losing this valuable piece of green space and to encourage them to do the feasibility study. Members of the Park Board maintain that this is the only viable site for construction of the skateboard park. A donor is willing to give money towards some of the costs of construction, but only if it is done on this site and is built by December 2014. This has created a sense of urgency for the Park Board and they are trying to move ahead without having a thoughtful plan in place. Based upon our extensive research there are alternatives for the site. We know that there is a solution to the “urgency” of this proposal. By creating a feasibility study we can take the time to decide how to proceed and find a solution which will benefit the donor and the city. There are several benefits to having a skateboard park in our community, but not at this site! The risk of giving up natural green space is too great. Once these natural areas are developed they are gone forever and will not return. The June 2014 New Richmond Park System Plan states that parks “…give a glimpse of natural beauty in the midst of the manmade environment of a city.” This is so true! We are so lucky to live in an area where parks are plentiful and green space is valued. Let’s take the time to determine the best site for the skateboard park and not rush a decision that we will all regret. over We urge you to contact the following: City Council Members Jim Zajkowski Jane Hansen 715-246-6937 715-220-1750 aldermanzajkowski@frontier aldermanhansen@frontier Wards 11, 12, 13 Wards 7, 8 Ron Volkert Craig Kittel 715-220-6788 715-246-3901 Wards 9, 10 aldermankittel@frontier Wards 1, 2 Scottie Ard Jim Jackson 715-338-6064 715-338-5041 aldermanard@frontier aldermanjackson@frontier Wards 3, 4 Wards 5, 6 Park Board Members Heritage Center Board Members Jim Zajkowski Cheryl Emerson, President Craig Kittel Keith Swiggum, Vice President Brian Schroeder Betty Komula Frank Norton Bob Goodlad Jon Hailey Dennis Johnson Jim Jackson Vicki Mayer Joe Ard John Hackbarth Mary Ann Hanson Gary Knutson For more information or to sign the Save the Greenway petition, please contact: Trish: 246-2240 or Judy: 246-2829
