New Spirits This Week - 1/26/15 Hey y’all - Weve brought in some fun stuff this week, including some pretty rare labels, that I really wanted to let y’all know about. Whiskey and Whisky: Laphroaig Triple Wood - Islay, Scotland A treat for all you Islay peat-heads out there. Laphroaig Scotch whisky triple matured, first in the standard used bourbon barrels, then a selection is taken and aged in quarter casks, and then a selection from that is transferred to European Oak Olorosso sherry casks. Bright gold with a syrupy sweetness to compliment the customary Laphroaig peatiness. $14 for a 2 oz dram, neat or (if you must) on the rocks Willet’s Family Estate Single Barrel 6 yr Rye Willet’s Family Estate Single Barrel 8 yr Rye - Bardstown, KY Pretty rare finds around these parts, expect varying degrees of maple, caramel, and mint notes. Rye grain really shines through on these beauties. Starting at $12.50 and $16.50, respectively, for 1.5 oz shots FEW Bourbon - Evanston, IL A really nice high-rye bourbon from Evanston. Starting at $10 for 1.5 oz shot Big Bottom Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Cabernet Cask Finish - Hillsboro, OR This is a six year old bourbon finished with a five month maturation in French oak cabernet sauvignon casks. Adds a medley of dark fruit flavors to the usual bourbon suspects. Starting at $8.50 for 1.5 oz shot Corsair Ryemageddon - Nashville, TN American rye whiskey distilled from malted rye and chocolate rye. Super full bodied, aromas of chocolate and peanut butter, fresh rye toast, baking spices, vanilla. Starting at $10 for 1.5 oz shot Rock Town Arkansas Bourbon - Little Rock, AR A young, wheated bourbon, sweet, nutty, and smoky. Roasted corn, brown sugar, cherry, almond notes. Starting at $8.5 for 1.5 oz shot Oola Waitsburg Bourbon Whiskey - Seattle, WA High-rye content bourbon with a classic profile of vanilla, caramel, and cherry. Nice long finish of buttery oak, toffee, and cherry. Starting at $9 for 1.5 oz shot Riverboat Rye - Bardstown, KY Say what you will about MGP (formerly LDI), but good juice is good juice. Like the Redemption label, this is Indiana distilled and Kentucky bottled. It is essentially the same whiskey as the Redemption Rye but younger, bottled shortly after the two year minimum is reached. Starting at $5.50 for 1.5 oz shot Temptation Bourbon - Bardstown, KY Another member of the Redemption cluster, but with a lighter rye mashbill than Redemption Bourbon, which leads to a sweeter profile. Starting at $6.50 for 1.5 oz shot Rum: El Dorado 12 yr Rum - Guyana A demerara rum aged 12 years in bourbon barrels. Lush tropical fruit and spice, honey and dark sugar, dry finish. Starting at $8 for 1.5 oz shot El Dorado 5 yr Rum - Guyana Little brother of the 12 year, dried tropical fruit and spice, butterscotch, and a hint of vanilla. Starting at $6 for 1.5 oz shot Other: FEW Anguish and Regret - Evanston, IL A fancied up version of Jeppson’s Malort, more floral and not nearly as bitter. But more expensive. Starting at $8 for 1.5 oz shot Watershed Nocino Black Walnut Liqueur - Columbus, OH An Ohio-grown version of the classic Italian liqueur, distilled from unripe walnuts and blended with sugar and spice. Starting at $12 for a 1.5 oz shot
