New Study Program Launched BS in Bioinformatics Bioinformatics, a combination of biology and computer science, is a multidisciplinary and emerging field that helps in collecting, linking, and manipulating different types of biological information to discover new biological insight. It is the information technology that can translate raw biological data into knowledge, as has lately been verified by resolving some of the mysteries of gene sequence analysis and decoding the human genome. Bioinformatics is playing a critical role in understanding biological data by providing quick information and making research fast. It is using latest ICT technologies and biological research together very efficiently. In future, this field will produce further opportunities for all people working in different areas. It is need of the time that teaching and research in the area of bioinformatics must be reinforced in Pakistan not only to incorporate the achievements in the world but also to conduct research to resolve problems specific to our community and country. This can be made possible only by producing highly skilled professionals in our country. It is, therefore, immediately required that academic programs in the field of bioinformatics may be integrated in our education system.
