New Testament scholar and historian N.T. Wright makes the case that the only way one can account for the rapid spread of Christianity is that Jesus of Nazareth was bodily raised from the dead. Without the Resurrection, there is no Christianity. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15: 14, 17, 19, And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith... And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins...If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. So you see, Christmas points to the cross. God entered human history in the form of His Son, Jesus of Nazareth, so that we could repent, have forgiveness of our sins and be reconciled to God. 1 John 4:10 says, This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
