New Texas Law Adds Restrictions For Motorcycles Carrying Passengers Anthony Pekowski 56 01/01/2015 09:51 PM 01/01/2015 11:25 PM Texas is welcoming in more than just a New Year, January 1st also marks the beginning of several new state laws. Most of the laws that come into effect Thursday only affect a narrow group of people. For instance, House Bill 62 dictates that state judges cant have a significant interest in businesses that own, operate, or manage private rehabilitation centers. However, there is one new law you may want to pay attention to. House Bill 3838, also known as Malories law, is now requiring motorcycles designed to carry more than one person to be equipped with handholds and foot rests for passengers. In 2010, 19-year-old, Mallorie Bullock, was killed while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. While she was wearing a helmet at the time, supporters of the bill claim she could have been saved if the motorcycle was equipped with passenger handles.
