New YMCA in Town The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation announced a $4 million lead gift to help create a first-of-its-kind, collaborative YMCA facility in south Meridian at the corner of Amity and Eagle roads. Plans include a multi-use, multi-million dollar campus complete with an elementary school, an aquatics center, a gym and a park. Local residents Marti Hill and Dixie Cook and Brighton Corporations David Turnbull donated about 22 acres total for the project, as part of the new Brighton community, Century Farm. Its a great day for us, our community and our region, said City Council President Charlie Roundtree. Mayor Tammy de Weerd calls the plans historic. It shows a clear promise to what our youth, families and business community should expect in leveraging dollars and efforts for the good of our communities in growing healthy families and thriving youth, said Mayor De Weerd.
