New Year Shocker! AK Opposition Leader Backs Udom… Slams G-22 His name rings a bell in the political circles for his roles in the 2011 elections. For Governor Akpabio and his campaign team, the name Obong O. T. Akpan meant strategizing and re-strategizing to win the 2011 election at all levels. O. T. Akpan launched a very powerful media campaign which spread the message of positive change senator Akpan Udoedehes 2011 governorship ambition represented across the state. Everywhere he went, Akpan spewed venom at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponents. His efforts paid off, at least the defunct ACN where he was Director of media and Publicity Clinched the Uyo House of Representative and House of Assembly seats. But in a very surprising move, O. T. Akpan has crossed over to the PDP. He publicly crossed over on new years eve, yesterday. He did not only crossover. He threw his weight completely behind the PDP candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial elections in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. He also used yesterdays media briefing at Noval Hotel, Uyo to slam the 22 aspirant who contested alongside Udom and lost; saying their actions are against the political health and development of Akwa Ibom State.Akpan spoke as president of Akwa Ibom Democratic Alliance. Explaining that the primary election was conducted by the PDP in total obedience to the rules of the game and that the 22 other aspirants, now called G. 22 should stop the tussle, Akpan added that “As expected in democratic contests, one of the aspirants who lost out in the election had approached a High Court in Abuja and obtained Interim Order against the outcome of the election. It is public knowledge that the said Interim Order which was obviously intended to deny the PDP in Akwa Ibom state the choice to file a governorship candidate in the 2015 Governorship election, had since been vacated by a court of competent jurisdiction in the interest of justice. The former opposition leader told Akwa Ibom people to ignore the action of the G-22 since according to him the PDP had since submitted the name of Udom Emmanuel and his running mate for 2015 election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the vacation of the interim order. He said it was curious that the G-22 did not protest after the House of Assembly, House of Representative and senate primaries were conducted by the PDP but decided to do so after the same list was used to conduct the governorship primary. Akpan alleged that it was clear they had planned to protest the election even before it was held. He recommended Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for the Office of Governor maintaining that he has leadership character, mental capacity, knack for excellence, political foresight, intellectual integrity and humility among other qualities. Akpan assured that Mr. Emmanuel would take Akwa Ibom to the next level by industrializing. It calling on the people of the state to support him. Other members of the Akwa Ibom Democratic Alliance at the media event were Prince Obot Ekott, state chairman, PDP adhoc delegates and Afianwe Victor Akai.
