New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez’s appointment as chair of the Council’s Transportation Committee has gained increased significance this month in the wake of a number of tragic pedestrian fatalities. As of January 27th, there have been 18 automobile-related fatalities, including pedestrians from all five boroughs. Rodriguez, who represents northern Manhattan, will be responsible for swiftly and effectively addressing the issue of road safety, along with Mayor Bill de Blasio and his newly appointed Transportation Commissioner, Polly Tottenberg.
