New York, Episode #4, Power and People. From the the late 1800s to 1920, NY existed with an influx of immigrants from all over Europe and other nations. They came to make their dreams a reality, to earn their keep in this new world where supposedly the streets were paved with gold. In watching this episode, focus on how NY begins its growth in reforms, the creation of laws that never existed before, to protect the people, the laborer. How our city began to take shape with all those ethnic backgrounds. How they begin to bridge and create a common ground to live in this demanding city that shun old world ways. Learn how a fire that killed 150 women from ages 14 to 30, led to the creation of laws to protect the laborer of horrible working conditions. It began here in NY and spread to other parts of the nation. Learn about a man without a College Education, become a powerful man that represented the people, the other half. The episode is heart wrenching but very informative about our early development in becoming the center of any idea to flourish and that nothing is impossible here. The episode is 1hr and 53 minutes long. youtu.be/urgO53m-qSE
